The Six Sigma Green Belt (SSGB) Certificate Program is a non-credit certification offered by Emory University's Professional Learning Programs. Six Sigma (often written as 6 Sigma or 6σ) is a set of business practices originally developed by Motorola to perform systematic process improvement by eliminating defects. Six Sigma was influenced by quality improvement methodologies such as quality control, Total Quality Management (TQM), and Zero Defects. Like those methodologies, Six Sigma asserts that:

• Controlling for process variations can produce more consistent quality in products and services
• Most business processes can be measured, analyzed, improved, and controlled
• Quality improvement is most effective with a commitment from the entire organization
